A FEW USEFUL LINKS
Business Tips and Opportunities April 09
Revamped Website
I have updated my website based on feedback received. It has been redesigned to bring out the large amount of information that is stored within it and to better illustrate the value I believe I bring to the market. I do hope you like it and do give me feedback, good or bad!
Admitting one’s own mistakes
I went to an interesting Herts Chamber breakfast at Sopwell House in March. Speaker Thomas Power of Ecademy spoke on E-Networking and very interesting it was too. One point he made was that one should publish on the Net one’s mistakes as it makes one more appealing; much better than just going on about one’s successes. Hmmm – well here goes. I made a right cock up yesterday. I pride myself on my organisational ability, my promptness for meetings and well you know the phrase “Pride cometh before the fall”.
I had arranged a meeting with an MD who was looking to sell his business at a Hotel with a client of mine who was interested in buying. I wrote in my diary 10am and confirmed it with my client. However I mistakenly wrote to the MD that the meeting would be at 11am! So of course my client and I turn up at 10am and the MD does not turn up and we leave at 10-45. I had stupidly left the number of the person we were to meet at home (mistake 2) and on return to my home office found out my mistake. By this time the MD was waiting for us at the Hotel. Chaos reigned whilst I tried to hastily rearrange the meeting (the MD had travelled from the South Coast for the meeting). Thankfully I managed that at some embarrassment to me. So lessons learned; double check before you confirm a meeting with all parties; confirm the meeting details the day before and take phone numbers of all participants with you just in case. Now was Thomas Power right? Do you think better of me for admitting my mistake or do you think I am a right prat? No you don’t need to answer that question I can well answer it for you!
Newera Controls Update – www.newera-controls.com
You will remember I am also involved in an exciting new start up venture called Newera Controls. Well I am pleased to announce the imminent beta site installation of Newera’s Generic Control System (GCS) at the world renowned Henley Management College. GCS is a step change in the provision of Environmental Control of buildings by being exclusively based on software (no proprietary hardware required) and is the foundation of a totally Intelligence based solution for buildings whatever their size or location. This installation is being sponsored by CIBSE and Prof. Derek Clements Croome of Reading University. We have a number of other exciting business developments in play as well and are very hopeful for some more significant announcements in the next few months.
